Project GreenlineA smooth transition to low GWP refrigerants

Project Greenline is our answer to growing demands for lower greenhouse gas emissions. Our air conditioners and thermosiphon heat exchangers are available with low GWP refrigerants to keep you ahead of the curve.

Staying ahead of HVAC refrigerant regulations

In efforts to reduce F-gas emissions and mitigate global warming, both the EU and the US have introduced stricter regulations on refrigerant use in new units. Our air conditioners and thermosiphon heat exchangers are now required to stay below 750 GWP in the EU market and 700 GWP in the US market.

The EU regulations

In the EU, the F-gas Regulation (EU) 2024/573 builds on the 2014 Regulation and introduces new requirements that aim to phase out HFCs by 2050. It was adopted in February 2024 and went into effect in March 2024.

The US regulations

The EPA’s Technology Transitions Program, under the authority of the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act facilitates the transition to next-gen technologies by restricting the use of HFCs in specific sectors and subsectors.

Our solution

We fully support the transition to more responsible technology. This is why we have introduced the more sustainable refrigerant R513a as a drop-in replacement in our products, enabling our customers to stay ahead of the curve and plan for the long term.

Why R513A is the standout choice

After extensive research and development that began when we kicked off Project Greenline in 2023, the R513a refrigerant is the right choice with unique advantages.

Because R513a is an A1 safety class refrigerant, we can offer our customers a non-flammable and non-toxic solution that doesn’t require additional training or testing. Keeping critical infrastructure sites safe and compliant is a win-win for us.

Switching to R513a means we can offer 56% reduced GWP. According to AR5, R513a has a GWP of 573, which is significantly lower than the traditional refrigerant R134a with a GWP of 1300.

By optimizing our product software, we ensured our market-leading energy efficiency was maintained when using R513a as a drop-in replacement.

Our modular solutions integrate the replacement seamlessly, allowing us to guide our customers through a smooth transition without the need for extra tools, training or costs – including no additional changes to article part numbers or schematics.

The same market-leading cooling

Our testing confirms our products can sustain comparable cooling performance and energy efficiency using the R513a refrigerant. Below are the results from tests performed on selected VAK Slim series models, demonstrating consistent performance under different indoor and outdoor temperature conditions.

Engineered for robustness and reliability in all environments, our products sometimes exceed 100% rated cooling capacity guaranteed at 35/35°C, demonstrating our commitment to quality and consistency to meet the demands of modern critical infrastructure.

Why choose a lower GWP refrigerant now?

Ready for the long term

We offer compliant solutions that can be implemented today and keep you in compliance as regulations increase.

Lower carbon footprint

Sustainability is no longer a nice-to-have. Guiding our customers through this transition is our priority as we continue to set a new standard for our business.
